THE WANDELL SCULPTURE GARDEN at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana Illinois is now the home for "Fathers and Sons".  With the addition of 6 new sculptures from Chicago's "Pierwalk '99" in early November, 1999 the Wandell Sculpture Garden hosts over 15 monumental sculptures in a delightful natual setting.  "Fathers and Sons" is now part of the sculpture garden's permanent collection.

Fathers and Sons The colors of the piece change as one walks around it and as the sun moves around the piece as well.  The bright sun creates moving shadows, while an overcast sky reveals more clearly the interior figures.

A paved path runs beside  McCoullough Creek and "Fathers and Sons"  which carries joggers, skateboarders, rollar bladers, cyclists and walkers into the landscape of prarie grasses, wildflowers, wildlife viewing areas and a variety of contempory sculpture.  Across the creek is a wonderful playground which is based on the ideas submitted by local children.

"In a world in which we often find ourselves isolated and estranged from one another, my work suggests and celebrates the possibility of relationship and community where love, support, playfulness and individual self expression can flourish."  -Peter W. Michel

It symbolizes the support structure provided by fathers upon which their sons can play, grow and become men ...

On November 8th and 9th, 1999 "Fathers and Sons" was moved from the Navy Pier in Chicago to    The Wandell Sculpture Garden at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana, Illinois and is now part of the permanent collection.
