"FAMILY STRUCTURES"

Family Structures This is a symbol of the interconnectedness of all of us, our families and communities.

The village of the mind, like a Pueblo village or a Habitat, contains the "collective unconscious and conscious"   thoughts, memories and activities of our minds.

"Family Structures" work in progress  © 1993-1999  wood and paper  22" x 24" x 12"

The wood portion of this piece was cut with a computer controlled laser cutter in 1993.  Note the burnt edges of the wood.  Shown in the photo is a painted paper figure in red that represents the activities of the mind.  In 1999, brass figures and ladders connecting the levels were added (although not shown in the photo).  The horizontal planes contain an array of slots which accept these additions.  The elements of the minds can be changed and moved about much like in a doll house.
